“24/7 security” appears on almost every storage website, and it can mean anything from a camera on a pole to a fully staffed site. Because you are trusting us with something expensive, often from more than a thousand kilometres away, we think you should know exactly what caravan security means at our yard in Vilasacra, and what it does not mean.

The layers of security at our yard

Secure caravan storage is not one thing. It is several measures that each make the next one harder to get past.

1. Perimeter fencing

The whole yard is fenced. That sounds obvious, but it is worth asking about at any storage site you consider. A continuous fence means the only way in for a vehicle is through the gate.

2. Gated, controlled access

The gate is controlled, and nobody drives in or out without us knowing. We work by appointment within our opening hours, so every visit is expected. When you come to collect your caravan, or when our driver takes it to your campsite, it is a planned movement rather than someone turning up unannounced.

This is also why we do not offer unaccompanied round-the-clock access. It is less convenient on paper, but it means a stranger with a hitch and a confident manner cannot simply drive off with a caravan.

3. CCTV, day and night

The yard is covered by HD CCTV that records around the clock, with motion detection. Cameras do two jobs: they deter, and they give a record if anything ever does happen.

4. People on site

During opening hours there is always someone from our team at the yard, and we keep an eye on the site outside those hours too. People notice things cameras do not: a cover working loose in the wind, a door that has blown open, a tyre that looks low.

5. Fire and safety

We follow fire and safety procedures on site, keep access routes clear and ask customers to turn gas off at the cylinder before storage. It is one more reason our winterising checklist asks you to disconnect the regulator.

Indoor storage adds another layer

For caravans and motorhomes stored in our hall, there is a building between them and the outside world, as well as the fence and gate. The hall has 4.5 m of clearance and takes units up to 12 m. If security is your main concern, indoor storage is the strongest option we have. We compare the three kinds of pitch in indoor vs outdoor caravan storage.

Insurance

Your caravan stays insured on your own policy while it is with us. Many insurers ask where a caravan is kept, and some have conditions for storage abroad. We can supply security details and documentation for your insurer, so ask us if your provider needs anything specific. It is worth checking your policy covers storage in Spain before you book.

What you can do as well

Our security works best alongside a few simple steps on your side:

  • Use a wheel clamp and hitch lock, as you would at home. Tell us if we need a key to move the caravan for transport.
  • Take valuables home: electronics, documents, spare keys and anything that looks tempting through a window.
  • Consider a tracker. If your insurer offers a discount for one, it may pay for itself.
  • Photograph the caravan inside and out when you drop it off, so you have a record of its condition.
  • Close blinds partly so the interior is not on display, but leave them half open so the springs do not lose tension.

Honest about the limits

No storage yard anywhere can promise that nothing will ever go wrong, and you should be wary of any that does. What we can promise is that the yard is fenced, gated, watched and staffed, that movements in and out are planned, and that if something does look wrong we will contact you straight away.

Where we are

We are at Camí de les Vinyes 5 in Vilasacra, two minutes from exit 4 of the AP-7 and 10 minutes from Figueres. Being close to the motorway makes it easy for you to reach us, and it makes transport to and from the campsites around Roses, Empuriabrava and Sant Pere Pescador quick, so your caravan spends less time on the road. See caravan storage in Figueres or caravan storage in Roses for details by area.

See it for yourself

If you are in the area, book an appointment and come and look around before you decide. Get in touch through our contact page, or check prices first on our storage pricing page.
